Biography

Gustavo was born in CG, Jalisco, Mexico. Even as a youngster he was a "charro" and loved singing and performing for family. At age 12 he immigrated to the U.S. to live with his mother, stepfather and 6 siblings. The family were migrant farm workers and they eventually settled in Salinas, CA, where Gustavo completed his high school education. Throughout his high school years he continued his singing at school and community functions. After high school he was offered a recording contract in Los Angeles, but his mother convinced him to pursue his college degree instead. Although he followed her advice in pursuing a college degree, he still made time for singing. During his college years at San Jose State, he joined mariachi bands and sang at faculty, student and community social functions. After graduating from college with a Business degree, Gustavo got together with other Latino singers and recorded an album of various Latino songs. Although he had limited time for singing while he worked in High Tech, Gustavo still found time to engage in the two things he loves most: family and singing. Gustavo would often take his recording equipment and sing at family backyard functions. Upon retirement, Gustavo decided to pursue his dream of singing on stage. He moved to Las Vegas and did just that. After some time, Gustavo returned to California to help with family needs. He continued to sing as a volunteer performer at several retirement and senior citizen homes. To date, Gustavo continues to be involved in singing Mariachi for family and friends at social events and gatherings. Singing is his passion, and through his music Gustavo feels the love of God as he sees the audience's joy and passion inspired by the music and words of Mariachi.
